In this illustration I depicted a scene from a chapter in the book The Scarlet Letter. I wished to portray uncertainty Pearl was feeling deep inside when meeting her father Dimmesdale for the first time. The loss of the bond with her mother Hester to be shared with another person. Dimmesdale's hopeful reception from his first encounter with his daughter Pearl. And Hester's somewhat concerned but happy approval of her decision to have this meeting take place in the forest where she feels sunshine of freedom. Passage: Hester looked at him with the thrill of another joy. 'Thou must know Pearl!' said she. 'Our little Pearl!' Thou has seen her. Yes, I know it! But thou wilt see her now with other eyes.
